Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with MIUI 9 unveiled, sale debuts today

Finally, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is official. The latest budget smartphone from the successful Chinese manufacturer has been unveiled.


The Redmi Note 5A has been unveiled in two (three to be precise) variants - one with a Snapdragon 425 SoC and the other with the Snapdragon 435 SoC. The latter is again available in two different RAM and storage configurations and these models feature a fingerprint sensor on board. As confirmed previously, all the three variants of the Redmi Note 5A have dedicated dual SIM card slots and a microSD card slot for expandable storage.

Base variant of Redmi Note 5A

 The Redmi Note 5A boasts of a 5.5-inch HD 720p display and uses a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 SoC paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space, which can be expanded up to 128GB. Running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat topped with MIUI 9, the smartphone flaunts a 13MP main snapper with LED flash, PDAF, and f/2.2 aperture. Up front, there is a 5MP selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture. The other goodies on board the Redmi Note 5A are an infrared sensor, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, Wi-Fi and a 3080mAh battery.

High-end Redmi Note 5A variant 

The high-end model of the smartphone is fitted with a 5.5-inch HD 720p 2.5D curved glass display and is equipped with a 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC paired with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage capacity. The device supports expandable storage up to 128GB using a microSD card. While the operating system, battery, rear camera and connectivity aspects are similar to the base variant, this one has a fingerprint sensor and a 16MP selfie camera with Omnivision sensor, LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and a 76.4-degree wide-angle lens.

Price and availability

 The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A has been unveiled in three color options - Rose Gold, Champagne Gold, and Platinum Silver. The base variant is priced at 699 yuan (approx. Rs. 6,500) and the high-end variant is priced at 899 yuan (approx. Rs. 8,500) for the 3GB RAM model and 1199 yuan (approx. Rs. 11,500) for the 4GB RAM model. The smartphone will go on sale in China from today, August 22.
